Heat Soaking

It has been known since end of the fifties that tempered glass can be subject to spontaneous breakage without any perception of a destroying effect from outside. Meanwhile, a flood of lawsuits worldwide has lead to legal notice resulting in rules which direct a material test glass before being applied to buildings: “Heat Soak Test”. When the glass, after tempering, is subjected to a subsequent heat treatment, i.e. to be hold at 290oC within definite time, the nickel sulphide,NiS, tends to regain its Low Temperature form, which is approx.4% larger by volume than the High Temperature form(i.e. form taken after cooling stage of tempering). This will lead to a rupture of those glass sheets in which NiS is available. The destructive test method will secure that glasses having overcome the test are suitable to be applied for architectural purposes outside of building walls. This test is being carried out in a Heat Soak Test Oven.

TMB(Torgauer Maschinenbau) is considered a leader supplier for production of Heat Soak furnaces and it is also known for their innovative and proven technology. TMB furnaces are single chamber ovens electrically heated feeded by stillages of many sizes
