ADVANCED ROLLERWAVE & EDGE KINK MEASUREMENT

The Temper Scanner 5D measures rollerwaves and edge kinks at the exit of tempering furnaces with unprecedented precision. Using state-of-the-art line scan camera technology and a continuous optical triangle light reflection pattern, the system achieves the highest spatial resolution, measuring local rollerwaves every 0.5 mm in transport direction with up to 2 mD resolution. This eliminates the need for additional perpendicular measurements, unlike older setups.

ACCURATE DATA FOR BETTER DECISIONS

With precise measurement of typical rollerwave patterns such as hammer, pocket, or saddle, as well as non-typical distortions, the Temper Scanner 5D delivers actionable data for process optimization. Results are presented in mD for local bows and in mm as Peak/Valley values, covering the leading edge, center, and trailing edge. This ensures that decisions based on the data are highly reliable and improve overall glass quality.

The channels used

The Temper Scanner 5D is a modular scanner system that can be equipped with up to five detection channels, depending on customer needs. Channels 1–3 focus on typical furnace-related issues, providing the basis for optimizing furnace parameters, while Channels 4 and 5 inspect typical glass defects where earlier quality control is not possible.

Within this setup, the Haze channel detects smooth surface contaminations such as white haze stripes caused during the tempering process. The Brightfield (transmission) channel identifies high-contrast defects such as scratches and raw glass inclusions after the furnace. The Reflection channel enables detection of coating defects and improves defect classification by combining data from multiple inspection methods. All channels can be used individually or in combination, offering full flexibility to match specific production requirements.
